January 8 “Knowing the Church of God” 1 Corinthians 1:2
The church at Corinth seemed not to have it all together.
However, as this letter begins, we get a glimpse at four truths that help us to understand
what the Church of God is, even if it is not a perfect church.
January 15 “Knowing the Grace of God” 1 Corinthians 1:3-9
Back in 1970, folk singer Judy Collins recorded John Newton’s “Amazing Grace,”
which hit # 15 on the billboard charts that year and reached # 5 in Great Britain.
The only problem was, people thought “grace” was the name of a woman.
What is God’s grace, and how does God want us to live under and experience His grace?
January 22 “Knowing the Faithfulness of God” 1 Corinthians 1:4-9
Have you ever wondered where God was when tragedy strikes in your life?
So many people question God. “Why?” seems to be the core question that God has to answer.
Yet, those who have come to know Him understand that God is faithful to those He has called into fellowship with His Son,
even when circumstances seem to deny it.
January 29 “The Issue of Division” 1 Corinthians 1:10-17
Anyone who hangs around the church for very long knows that Jesus’ prayer for “oneness” has not been fulfilled in the church.
Have you ever wondered why? The Apostle Paul lets us know, as he points to the forming of cliques
and the failure to understand that the church is all about the cross of Jesus Christ.
February 5 “The Issue of Denominations” 1 Corinthians 1:10-17
“So what church do you belong to?” Ever been asked that question?
Generally, as soon as you tell someone that you are a Christian, they want to pigeonhole you by your denomination.
Should we belong to a denomination? What does God think about denominations?
How should we answer if people ask us what church we belong to?
February 12 “The Power of God” 1 Corinthians 1:18-31
Most Christians have failed to grasp the power of the Gospel
because they have never had the privilege of leading someone to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
It is in the life transforming power of the Gospel that we begin to understand the power of God.
February 19 “The Wisdom of God” 1 Corinthians 1:18-31
The majority of atheists in this country have graduate degrees.
Does that mean that Christianity is not reasonable, that smart people would never accept our Christian faith?
The Apostle Paul, one of the brightest minds of his century,
would say that those supposedly bright minds that reject faith in Christ are actually the fools.
February 26 “The Effectual Call of God” 1 Corinthians 1:18-31
It is amazing how hard people fight to disprove God.
Human beings don’t want to admit that there is a God or they would have to change their lifestyle,
so they do everything they can to suppress the truth.
Fortunately for us, God hammers His way through our defenses and through His grace
makes His call to salvation effectual in its saving power.
