Bibleless People Prayer Project
The Ainu people do not have God's Word, the Bible, in their own language.
The Ainu populate the southwestern end of Xinjiang Province, China. This area of the world is bordered by Tibet to the East, and India to the South.
The entire population (only 6,570 as of 2000), of the Ainu people speak a language using the same grammar as Uyghur but with a great deal of Persian vocabulary. Some consider the language to be a dialect of Uyghur, while others refer to the tongue as an Iranian language heavily influenced by Uyghur. The Chinese government considers the Ainu people Uyghur.
The members and friends of Metropolitan Baptist Church have begun, in partnership with Wycliffe Bible Translators, to pray for the Ainu people and the translation of the Bible into the Ainu language.
Prayer Requests:
- Pray for someone to do the linguistic survey to determine if a translation is necessary. Sometimes the mother tongue is known by most of the population making a translation unnecessary, but that will not be known unless a survey is undertaken and completed.
- Pray that God will provide surveyors and grant them sufficient time and protection among the Ainu people of China to gather enough information needed to make a decision.
